42 Architects is an architectural studio based in Stockholm, Sweden.
The practice works internationally on cultural, residential and commercial projects providing full architectural, landscape and interior design, event and exhibition design services for both public and private sectors. We have established a strong experience of projects that engages with fashion and contemporary cultural production, and have experience of working with clients such as The Southbank Centre, British Fashion Council, Paul Smith, Strelka Institute, Acne, Färgfabriken, Specialized and Urbanears to name a few.
The work of the practice has been published extensively in high profile magazines and journals including Mark, A10, C3, Frame, Arkitektur, Dezeen, World Architecture News and has been showcased in multiple venues around the world. Our project for a new skateable public space, Hyttgårdsparken, was showcased at the Venice Biennale in 2016 as part of a selection of the best contemporary Scandinavian architecture.

Johan graduated as the highest achieving Diploma student of his year at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. His diploma project won great acclaim both within and outside the Bartlett, winning the UCL Sir Bannister Fletcher Medal for the highest grade in diploma, as well as winning a commendation for the RIBA Silver Medal awards along with the iGuzzini and SOM travel awards. He was chosen by Building Design as one of the the best architecture graduates across the UK.
Previous professional experience includes several years as an associate at Mangera Yvars Architects, where he led the design team of several key projects, including the multi award winning $250 million Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies in Doha, Qatar. He also worked as a senior architect with the team of Martha Schwartz Partners, where he was instrumental in the design of the 4km long Abu Dhabi Corniche.
Johan founded 42 Architects in 2009, and has since led the practice through a fast growing portfolio of innovative projects of high quality for both private and public clients.
Johan has along his professional work also established a strong academic career, previously running the successful BSc Unit 8 and March Unit 16 at the Bartlett School of Architecture, where he taught for a total of 11 years. He is a visiting tutor and critic at several schools in the UK and Europe, and previously held a position as Associate Lecturer at Chelsea College of Art and Design.
